Invite your private DriveAngels

DA is by definition a big data game, meaning the more users there are and the higher the aggregate mileage they clock up the more accurate and reliable the entire DA system gets. This also means that your private angels also play an active role in making the system better. If you pre-order any of the four DA editions we suggest that your next step is to decide who you want to be your private angels and invite them by filling out the invitation form.  If you do so your angels will receive the following message:

I have become a DriveAngel  user. DriveAngel is a service that radically improves road safety and can save human lives that are otherwise lost in road accidents. Click here to learn more about DA.  If you accept my invite and become my private angel you will:
• get an automatic notification that I started driving and you'll be asked not to call or text me. About 70% of all major road accidents are caused by drivers being distratcted by phone calls and text messages.
• get an automatic notification that I arrived in my destination and that you can call me or send a text message
• You will also automatically receive a unique "follow me" link. If you use it while I am driving you will be able to see, in real time, where I am now and how I am driving“.

If you are sceptical about the impact you and your private angels can have please read the following paragraph.

A big what if – DriveAngel set against road death statistics

What if each and every car on the planet were guarded by DriveAngel? What would happen if there were a smartphone with the DriveAngel app in every car on the move? How would that affect those 1.2 million people who die on the road every year?

Driver distraction eliminated

Over 70% of all car accidents are caused by some form of driver distraction within three seconds of the crash. Mobile phone use (texts and calls) accounts for 80% of the crashes caused by driver distraction.
DriveAngel eliminates mobile phone use while in a car on the move and as a result it can be estimated that at about 600.000 human lives would be saved every year on the strength of one single DriveAngel feature alone.
Now that 600.000 have been taken off the global road death toll we are now down to 600.000 deaths.

Driver fatigue prevented

What about the second most common cause of road deaths – driver fatigue? Statistics on this cause vary from country to country but we can safely attribute at least 15% road deaths to driver fatigue. DriveAngel warns the driver that she or has entered the „fatigue zone“. Heeding DriveAngel's fatigue alert means that another 120.000 lives could be saved every year.

Aggressive driving

We are now down to 480.000 road deaths so what next? The item number 3 on the road death menu is speed and aggressive driving. DriveAngel dislikes excessive speed and aggressive driving and makes it clear to the driver to slow down. Provided this suggestion is observed another (estimated) 120.000 deaths can be deleted from the total road death count.
We are now left with 360.000 road deaths triggered by drink driving, drugs and a plethora of other causes.

Can DriveAngel further reduce the above number? The number of road deaths would be reduced by 30% to 60% (statistics about this vary to a great extent from country to country) if each and every victim received help in good time. With the help of Drive Angel automatic accident alert the average response time of emergency services can be halved, meaning we are down to 180.000 road deaths a year.

This is a statistical exercise showing that in an ideal world (where everyone has a smartphone and DriveAngel) we would be able to save nearly one million human lives every year.

Admittedly it will take some time before a smartphone is found in every car on the move.

Nine years? Five? Who knows? All we can know is that the difference between nine and five years is 5 million human lives.

Let’s do our best, let’s help spread the word to make everyone aware that we simply CANNOT afford not to invest some silly amount of time and money to kill road deaths.
